Transport Supervisor

Transport Supervisor - Cross Border Trucking

Purpose of the role:

Our internationally based client has opened up operations in South Africa and currently required a Transport Supervisor for their Cross-Border Trucking division.

 

Main Functions:

                                                      

  • Familiar with cross border trucking rates and should be able to source the best rates.

  • Has excellent knowledge of the trucking industry and familiarity of not only the main trucking companies, but also the small operators from South Africa to Zambia, Congo, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and sometimes, Namibia and Mozambique.

  • Coordinate with our customers to arrange / schedule pickups.

  • Should be able to consolidate with cargo when there is less than full load.

  • Should be knowledgeable about documentations and procedures required at the border.

  • Should be well versed on transit times to / from South Africa and major cities.

  • Coordinate and plan with drivers to effectively and efficiently dispatch the loads in timely manner

  • Maintain high compliance to dispatch standards and operating procedures.

  • Provide assistance by telephone and email to customers and business partners.

  • Develop delivery routes and maintain contact with drivers throughout the day.

  • Booking and dispatching drivers, brokers for cross border and regional pickup and deliveries.

  • Be aware of location of drivers/trucks at all times.

  • Optimize transport planning in the most efficient way for customers

  • Maintain proper and accurate Pre-Shipment and Post-shipment Administration:

  • Track and Trace

  • Proof of Delivery

  • Over, short, and damaged shipment issues

  • Evaluates, records, and responds to additional/special service requests (i.e. lift-gate, inside delivery, etc.)

  • Work with transportation providers and freight payment team to ensure proper accessorial cost and flows

  • Handle damage and loss claims

  • Assists in troubleshooting and resolving safety, service, and operational issues

  • Ensure correct estimates in transport planning system

  • Meet on time delivery (OTD) requirements and follow on discrepancies with suppliers and Customer Service

  • Customer management; adequately and proactively inform Customer Service departments, Global Service Centres and suppliers

  • Has initiative & come ups with suggestions to improve the business further.

 

Requirements:                

 

  • 2-5 years of experience in dispatching and working in a trucking company.

  • Use of, and/or experience with, load link, truck-stop software and websites would be acceptable.

  • Proficient in MS Office software.

  • Degree in transportation or a related field preferred.

  • Highly effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Fluent in English.

  • Functional knowledge in Supply Chain

  • Preferably knowledge of import and export

  • Interpersonal skills and relationship building

  • Deadline-oriented

  • With excellent problem-solving skills

  • Continuous Improvement mind-set

  • Able to work in fast-paced environment, multi-tasking.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuade others.
